The Urban Farm
The Backyard Poultry Run
Over the past few years, there has been a trend in some cities across Canada and the United States towards the concept of “Urban Farming,” in which some residential areas are allowed the raising of chickens for personal egg consumption. In Canada, North Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia as well as Guelph and London, Ontario have created bylaws to allow this. In the United States, New York and Chicago are two of the cities that also have bylaws in place permitting laying hens.

Some of the reasons people are choosing to raise chickens for their own eggs are:
-
Easy and inexpensive to maintain (when compared to most other pets)
-
Eggs that are fresh, great-tasting & nutritious Chemical-free bug and weed control
-
Manufacture the worlds best fertilizer
-
Fun & friendly pets with personality
-
The opportunity for children to reconnect with “where food comes from in their world”
Here at Paradise Valley Residential and Resort Community we would like to make this option available to lot owners with some of the same guidelines and restrictions that are imposed on other urban farming locations.
These are:
-
Nine chickens, or other approved domesticated wild fowl stated in the Urban Farm Guidelines for Chickens and Domesticated Fowl listed below will be allowed per 2 acre lot. This also is in accordance with the bylaws of the Riverdale Municipality of which we reside.
-
The birds will have to be enclosed in a coop and outdoor run that meets the Architectural Design and Property Guidelines of the development.
-
Residents will care for their birds in accordance to a reasonable adherance to:
